New Year, Same You

As the new year begins, I’m sure many of you have set new year’s resolutions, goals you’d like to hit this year, and you’ve probably made your slogan for the beginning of the year “New Year, New Me”. We see this slogan so many times when a new year approaches, and many times it’s meant to be a joke, but I’ve recently realized that it doesn’t need to be a new year, new you - it can be a new year, same you and have the same revelation you’re hoping to see within yourself.

“As long as you have grit and determination, you can accomplish any goal you dream of meeting.”

As boring as it sounds, “new year, same me”, it’s actually pretty liberating! Here at Larison Media, we’ve created a list of goals that our team is going to hit over the next 12 months. While our reward is amazing (Vegas, baby!), it’s already lighting a spark in each of us to push to be the very best version of ourselves that we can be. One of the goals we have is to read one book each month. Our book for January is Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance by Angela Duckworth. This book has given me a whole new perspective on what we truly hold within ourselves, and it’s what made me change my slogan from “New Year, New Me” to “New Year, Same Me”. In the book, the author discusses talent isn’t everything when it comes to success and that effort matters just as much, if not more. As long as you have grit and determination, you can accomplish any goal you dream of meeting. It sounds cheesy, but as I continue reading more of the book I realize how true it actually is! 

I want to challenge all of us to realize that whatever goal we have, whatever the dream we have for our life is, whatever you feel like you can’t do - you can do it all and you already have everything you need to achieve that within yourself. As long as you put your mind to it, use that grit that I know you have, and put the effort in every day to perfect whatever skill(s) necessary to accomplish your goal, you CAN do it! Not every successful person got to where they wanted to be solely because of talent. More common than not, they got there because of the hard work they put into perfecting their craft.  SO - let’s continue being ourselves, but also let’s make sure we’re pushing to be the best version of ourselves in 2021 and putting in the effort necessary to meet our goals!
