Riding the Social Media Success Cycle

Koko-GO Free Ride Bike Share is an excellent example of a brand using all of our primary service offerings—social media management, digital ad management, logo design, and website design—from it’s beginning stages.

We’re focussing on Koko-GO for this case study because we have had the responsibility and privilege of being apart of this brand since it’s conception. We partnered with The City of Kokomo to help bring a name, logo, brand pallet, and social media platforms.

Background

Koko-GO Free Ride Bike Share is the first of it’s kind for the City of Kokomo. Koko-GO is a free bike-sharing program offered to anyone who would like to check out a bike for a 3-hour time limit. The bike-share includes 26 adults bikes, 4 children's bikes, 2 tag-along bikes (an attachment for a child to ride behind an adult), 2 adult trikes, and one adult tandem bike

Larison Media had the unique opportunity to handle all elements of the Koko-GO brand from the very beginning. Since this was the first bike-share in the City of Kokomo, everything was new. The challenges were that not only was the concept new to the city, but the brand itself was also completely new. We’ve had a relationship with The City of Kokomo since we’ve run marketing campaigns for them in the past.

Goals

The City of Kokomo approached Larison Media about helping them achieve four primary goals:

  1. Create and name, logo and brand for the free bike-share

  2. Create an online audience on social media channels

  3. Expand and create engagement with the audience

  4. Handle all community management

Based on these goals, we worked closely with Randy Morris, Controller for the City of Kokomo. From a multi-step creative process choosing the name, logo, and color palette of the bike-share, to the frequent communication with city representatives (obviously, summer weather played a big factor in the availability of bike rentals ;) ) we exceeded the goals set before us.

We worked with the City of Kokomo and defined the brand voice of Koko-GO as friendly, helpful, and community focussed. Taking the time for these strategic conversations is something every brand must do when they’re in the creative process.

We then looked at what similar bike-share programs were doing on their social media channels to identify any lessons that could potentially be learned there. Koko-GO is unique though, in that is it one of the first completely free bike-share municipal programs.

Larison Media took on all social media marketing services, including:

  • Logo creation (name, design, and color palette)

  • Website creation

  • Social Media Management for Facebook and Instagram, Monthly Content Calendars, Daily custom content, Community Management

  • Social Ad Management for Facebook

How did we raise awareness?

Once we had the logo created and approved, we built the website, Facebook page, and Instagram page. From there, we started organically growing the audience, and since it was such a popular addition to community life, Koko-GO’s platforms grew exponentially. Once we had a base audience, we were able to identify optimal publishing days/times. Since the City of Kokomo asked for a community-friendly page, we encouraged as much engagement as possible, highlighting audience photos and feedback regularly.

Results

How did Larison Media’s custom strategies with Koko-GO Bike share pay off? Was social media marketing a success for Koko-GO?

See for yourself:

  • From June 2019 to November 2019, we had 29066.67% overall growth in social media audience size (starting with 0 and ending with 891 followers at the time of publication, November 2019)

  • Posts reached a total of 99,292 users (494 per day). There was a total of 10,002 interactions.

  • Koko-GO’s Facebok page had a total of 140,117 post impressions (697 per day).

  • 7 minute average response time to messages and comments

  • 100% response rate to messages and comments
